About me
My name is Angel Alonso Sarmiento. I’m a film sound professional.
I’ve spent over ten years working across every stage of cinematic sound: on set as production sound mixer, and in the room editing dialogue, designing sound worlds, and mixing the final picture.
Sound isn’t a complement — it’s where atmosphere lives, where tension builds, where emotion lands when the image alone can’t carry it. A well-recorded set, clean dialogue, a design that places the audience without them noticing: that’s the invisible work that builds the experience. That’s the work I care about.
I trained at the International School of Film and Television (EICTV) in Cuba, and before that studied Visual Arts at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia — a combination that’s not accidental. Thinking sound through image, and image through sound, is central to how I understand this craft.
I’ve worked on over 60 projects — documentary, fiction, filmed theatre, and commercial — in Colombia, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, and the United States. With Latin American and English-speaking directors, in independent productions and projects with international distribution.
In 2017, alongside a group of sound professionals who graduated from EICTV, I co-founded STEMS Group — an international film sound post-production project with presence in Colombia, Dominican Republic, and the United States.
In 2021, together with two partners, we formally established STEMS Group SAS in Bogotá. Today the company has a 7.1 mixing room, Pro Tools Ultimate, and a team of collaborators across every stage of post-production. This allows me to accompany projects not only as an independent professional, but also as an entry point to a complete team when the project calls for it.
I am an accredited member of the Colombian Cinema Sound Association (ADSC) and the Colombian Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (ACACC).
